Janet Henry |
Henry had been at UNMC for 20 years.
“Dedicated, quality, conscientious, hardworking are just some of the words that emerge when you think of Janet,” said Barb Jackson, Ph.D., director of the department’s Interdisciplinary Center for Program Evaluation. “She has been the backbone of our department, keeping things running smoothly and balancing the many demands of the job and supporting us all as well.
“But most important was her character. She taught us how to face the challenges of life, through her own courage and strength and positive approach to life.”
According to the Council Bluffs Nonpareil: Visitation with the family is 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, followed by a celebration of life service at 7 p.m., at Cutler-O’Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel, 545 Willow Ave., Council Bluffs. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Susan G. Komen Foundation in her name.

It is always hard to lose a dedicated member and a valued friend. These events leave a void in us, and we must treasure the memories… I regret that I did not have a chance to meet her.
Even if you worked her at MMI, you would have never known that Janet had been battling cancer. She was always more interested in others than saying anything about herself. We miss you Janet.
Janet was a kind and caring person who was always happy and smiling. I will miss her smile.
Janet was such a kind, talented, generous, and dedicated woman whose strength, commitment, and determination will always be unparalleled. Her smile and kind heart will always be remembered. She will be so very greatly missed!

Janet was an amazingly strong woman who cared most about everyone else. She will be truly missed and it was a pleasure getting to know and work with her.
“When you are joyful, when you say yes to life and have fun and project positivity all around you, you become a sun in the center of every constellation, and people want to be near you.”
I will greatly miss the sunshine which was her smile, laugh, and hugs. She was such an inspiration and I am blessed that she shared her time and friendship with me!
I knew Janet only through our institute lunches. She was always the first to arrive to help, and the last to leave with the clean dishes to return. She embodied the mission statement of service to others – with a wonderful smile. Se had my admiration and you have my sincere condolences…
Janet was our "Coordinator of Chaos" and that title doesn't do her justice-she will be missed beyond words not just for her vital role in our functioning, but also for her kind-hearted and giving nature. She showed us what dedication and strength in the midst of trials was and we'll miss that smile EVERYDAY!!!

Janet was truly the definition of heroic in my eyes: brave, courageous, dauntless and fearless. I am very grateful for her friendship and inspiration. She will live on in each of our hearts…
I had the pleasure of working with Janet since she started at MMI. I will always admire her strength, but most of all, I loved those times when we laughed. You will be missed, my friend.
MMI will not be the same- since the Education department moved to the Center I have missed seeing her walking the halls. Janet was always the go to person for MMI's picnics and even if you worked with her infrequently, like me, you could rely on Janet with her keen mind and attention to detail to get things done, or help you accomplish your goals. Our loss, heaven's gain.
Janet was strength and gentleness at her core; but wrapped in a fun-loving personality. I keep finding myself thinking selfishly of how much poorer our lives will be without her. Carol
I'm so sorry to hear of Janet's passing. I admired her for the strength, courage and dedication that she emanated. She will be missed. May she rest in peace now…Gail Svagera

She was by far the strongest women I have ever met! She was a friend to everyone and I miss her everyday!
It is hard to imagine MMI without Janet. She was really at the heart of who we are and what we do. She will be dearly missed….
Farewell my dear department coworker, farewell. Gabriella Castro
I will miss Janet's infectious smile and beautiful laughter and in my heart I know you will walk beside us in the hallways of MMI and smile.
Everyone has summed Janet up beautifully. She was loved by the MMI family. She was an amazing lady for many many reasons. She will be missed.

Work around the office will not be the same without her, like mentioned before she was our pillar, our coordinator during chaos, the " do it all" or " HR department" how I used to called her, but most of all, we will miss her smile, her willingness to help others and her beautiful kindness even on her hardest days. You were loved.
Janet will be greatly missed! As many have said before, she always had a smile on her face and such kindness that seems so rare these days.
Janet always had a smile and a warm "hello" whenever you saw her in the halls. She will be missed by many!
