Members of the Legislative League, made up of spouses of Nebraska state senators, toured UNMC last week.
The league got an inside look at a handful of medical center highlights before capping off their visit with a conversation and lunch with UNMC Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D.
“We are seeing things that you don’t normally see,” said Marilyn Hadley, Ed.D., who is married to Sen. Galen Hadley, speaker of the Legislature. “We are getting the behind-the-scenes look from experts who tell us how it all operates.”
The league was given a welcome and overview of UNMC and its priorities by Bob Bartee, vice chancellor for external affairs. The tour then made stops at the Neonatal ICU (NICU); the Nebraska Biocontainment Unit; and the MultiTaction iWall in the Sorrell Center, for a review of UNMC’s iEXCEL initiative.
“I found this iEXCEL just fascinating,” Dr. Hadley said. As they headed for their lunch with Dr. Gold, she and many of her fellow league members were still visibly excited about the morning’s visit.
“This is a hard thing to convey to the public,” Dr. Hadley said of iEXCEL. “We’re very fortunate to have had the opportunity to see how it all works.”
