Indian folk artist to demonstrate her work at UNMC

Vijayalakshmi Mohan

Celebrated Indian folk artist Vijayalakshmi Mohan will be on UNMC’s campus to create her beautiful and astounding rangolis — decorative, impermanent patterns composed of colored sands, rice powders, beads, and other materials.

Mohan will be making rangoli designs in the Alumni Commons of the Sorrell Center from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Students, employees and faculty are encouraged to stop by and participate.

As a form of religious and artistic expression, rangolis offer a glimpse of Indian culture through the accessible format of public art.

Mohan’s visit is sponsored by the UNO College of Communication, Fine Arts and Media Cultural Enrichment Fund, which seeks to provide opportunities for UNO students to experience and engage with the arts; the Singapore Arts Council; UNO’s Medical Humanities minor; and UNO Spirituality, Public Health, and Religious Studies (SPHRS). The visit is facilitated by UNO’s Medical Humanities minor.
