Shoe drive will benefit rescue dogs

UNMC is hosting a shoe drive to benefit Hands, Hearts and Paws, a dog-rescue organization that rescues and helps shelter dogs facing high-cost medical procedures. From today through May 16, the organization is running a shoe drive on campus, collecting new and gently used shoes.

The shoes will be distributed to impoverished nations to provide a source of income to families with small businesses. Hands, Hearts and Paws will receive $1,000 to defray medical expenses for its rescue dogs if the organization can collect 2,500 shoes.

Collection boxes will be located at the Clarkson Hospital access desk, the Durham Outpatient Center entrance and by the C-store in the Sorrell Center.

Why are you wasting money on "high cost medical procedures" on dogs when there are uninsured kids going without needed care?

Can we send shoes over to a location by campus mail?

There are no collection boxes by the Clarkson Hospital access desk or the C-store in Sorrell. The staff in those areas say that there never has been any boxes. Where do you want the shoes?
