Dr. Estabrooks to discuss implementation science

Paul Estabrooks, Ph.D., the Harold M. Maurer Distinguished Chair of Health Promotion, Social & Behavioral Health in the College of Public Health, will talk about the emerging field of implementation science at a Brown Bag Luncheon at noon, March 14, in the Center for Nursing Science, room 3030.

Dr. Estabrooks, who joined the UNMC faculty in January, is the first to be named to the Maurer Distinguished Chair, which was established by a gift from Ruth and Bill Scott of Omaha in honor of Dr. Maurer, who served as UNMC chancellor from 1999 to 2014 and was instrumental in establishing the College of Public Health in 2006. Here’s a previous story detailing the Scotts’ gift to create the position.

Previously, Dr. Estabrooks was professor at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg and senior director of research at the Carilion Clinic in Roanoke. His research interests include behavioral medicine, physical activity and public health, social psychology, group dynamics, community physical activity behavior modification and leadership translation research.

Translating research results into to everyday health-related practices is not as easy as it sounds. Implementation research examines how interventions can be better integrated into diverse practice settings and emphasizes direct engagement with the institutions and communities where health interventions are introduced.

The presentation will be available through livestream and via IP Video to all College of Nursing campuses:

  • Lincoln, Room 305
  • Kearney, Room 131
  • Scottsbluff, Room 122; and
  • Norfolk, Room 156.
