Each Thursday, we randomly feature a medical center employee. This week, we learn more about:
- Name: Kristi Brummels
- Hometown: Norfolk, Neb. (originally from Humphrey, Neb.)
- Number of years at UNMC: Four
Tell us a bit about what you do here at UNMC.
I am the Office/Learning Resource Center assistant at the College of Nursing Northern Division. I am responsible for scheduling classrooms and meetings for both the Northern Division and the Northeast Community College Nursing Program (we share the same building), tracking student immunizations, ordering medical supplies and planning events. My job has a lot of variety which I love!
“Being a trusted resource” is one of UNMC’s brand values. Tell us of a time you witnessed a person or group act as a trusted resource at UNMC.
I am the chair of the General Staff Organization (GSO) for the College of Nursing, so the first group that comes to mind is the GSO Steering Committee. The Steering Committee is the leadership team that plans and executes the activities of the organization. They are extremely committed to increasing employee engagement and providing professional development opportunities for staff. They work incredibly well together which positively impacts every member of the College of Nursing.
What is your favorite winter activity?
I honestly don’t care for winter very much. Then why live in Nebraska? I ask myself that every winter! I do really enjoy making soup and cinnamon rolls and snuggling with my kids while watching a movie when we are buried in snow. I also love sledding and making snowmen with them — so I guess winter isn’t all that bad!
List three things people may not know about you.
- My sister and I gave birth on the same day even though our due dates were 12 days apart. She had a boy and I had a girl (they are 20 months old now).
- Earlier this month, we went to Mexico with friends and saw a sea turtle while swimming in the ocean. Supposedly seeing a sea turtle is a sign of good luck, so if that is true I am in for a great year!
- My dad served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Members of his platoon started getting together annually in the year 2000 and a few years later, they started coming to Nebraska to go pheasant hunting. Even though my dad has been deceased since 2007, they still come to Nebraska every winter to visit our family.
Kristi – I am thrilled that I can put a face to your name. Thank you for supporting the Denim for Disabilities these last couple of years.
You are welcome Kim Bainbridge. I am happy to promote such a fabulous program!
Kristi – great to see a picture of you. What a wonderful family.
