Name:   Crystal Miller

Title:     Departmental administrator, department of genetics, cell biology and anatomy

Hometown:  Verdigre, Neb.

Talk about your job and what you like best about it:

Partnering with faculty, staff and students on a daily basis. I get to use all of the information I have learned through the years at UNMC and apply it to what they are doing in the department. My goal is always to facilitate the process of what they want to accomplish. Solving problems and helping others be successful in reaching their goals is the best part of my job.

Your favorite memory of working at UNMC:

I’ve been here quite a few years, and I have many fond memories. The transition from paper to electronic grant submission and stimulus funding are two that come to mind. It was great to work with a group of people to come together to achieve a common goal.  Lately, being able to use my knowledge from working at the departmental  level to help solve problems on the university level has been the most gratifying.

Hobbies:

Raising money for mission work, quilting, gardening, bible study and servant work with women within my church

List three things people may not know about you:

  1. Even though I don’t have any children of my own, I have been a birth coach three times.  I’m not sure that birth coaches are ever a lot of help, but it was a blessing to get to be a part of each birth (my nephew, my friend’s son and my great niece).
  2. I was an athletic trainer in college. It helped me be active in many different sports, which I love, even though I’m not very athletic.
  3. I am the current president of the Nebraska North District Lutheran Women’s Missionary League,  which collects money in small boxes called Mite Boxes to support mission projects.  The national organization will raise $2 million for domestic and foreign projects in the current biennium.  Much of my vacation time is spent supporting this organization with my time, talent and treasure.
