UNMC on fire in CRM naming contest

The Name-the-Advancement CRM contest ended Jan. 20 with more than 400 names submitted by campus, foundation and alumni employees. The Advancement CRM (Constituent Relationship Management system) will contain information about the university’s alumni, friends and donors and is intended to be the “single source of truth” for these key university audiences.

The winning name, selected by the Advancement CRM Steering Committee, is Aletheia (“alley-thea”). In the Greek language, Aletheia is variously translated as “unclosedness” or “unconcealedness.” In Greek mythology, Aletheia is considered the Goddess of Truth and statues often depict her holding a mirror.

“The committee liked the connection between this Greek word for truth and what we are trying to achieve with the Advancement CRM, which is one record of truth about each alumnus, donor and friend of the university,” said the foundation’s Mike Bird, who leads the CRM Steering Committee. Bird said the committee recognized that Aletheia is a bit of a mouthful, and said he expects to use the shortened version, “Ali,” in most cases.

The winning name was submitted separately by two individuals, each of whom will be receiving a Kindle Fire. Tyler Scherr, president of the Graduate Student Association at UNMC, and Holly White, office associate in orthopaedic surgery at UNMC, are the lucky winners.

A kickoff event was held for the Ali CRM project team on Feb. 8. Regular updates on the project will be provided to the university community in the coming months.
