UNMC is transitioning to a new provider for long-term care insurance.
After a public request for proposals, a university committee with representation from all campuses selected Genworth Life Insurance Company as the university’s new group long-term care provider. More information on the enrollment process, rates, and benefit schedule will be coming soon.
Two informational meetings will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 10, on the UNMC campus. Each meeting should take approximately one hour.
- 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., Wittson Hall, Room 3034
- 3 p.m.- 4 p.m., Durham Research Center Auditorium, Room 1002
The university will have a special enrollment period for the new long-term care insurance program that runs through March 4. This is not an annual opportunity; it’s a one-time opportunity to enroll in the group long-term care insurance program with limited medical underwriting.
With this group long-term care insurance program, there is limited medical underwriting if you are in a benefits-eligible position and actively at work, in a full-time position, under the age of 66, work at least 20 hours per week and apply during this enrollment period. This is a limited-time offer and will not be available each year with the same terms.
The earliest effective date for coverage elected during this special enrollment period will be April 1.
To register, log in to Eserv , click on the “Education” tab, then on “My Registrations.” The name of both meetings is “Genworth Long Term Care Informational Meeting.” When you click on the time you want to attend, enter your name on the right hand side and click Register. You should receive an email confirmation to your UNMC email account.
Genworth also will be available on Wednesday, Feb. 24, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Administration Building, Room 2032, for one-on-one meetings with employees. Meetings will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

As a reminder, those who are currently enrolled in long-term care with CNA may continue their coverage under their current plan. Employees also have the option of cancelling their current coverage with CNA and enrolling in a new plan with Genworth. Premiums for the new coverage will be based on current age.
