Jan. 26-27 – A symposium, "Elevating the Conversation: Stress and Emotional Well-Being" will feature several nationally known speakers. At a student reception on Jan. 26, Lotte Dyrbye, M.D., of the Mayo Clinic will be keynote speaker. She is an expert on burnout, quality of life, and depression as they pertain to medical students.

Jan. 28 – Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert and her executive staff will visit the UNMC campus to receive a briefing on the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center.

Jan. 31 – Last day to skate at the UNMC Ice Rink.

Feb. 1 – Launch of new Reward & Recognition Program.

Feb. 9 – UNMC will receive the Headliner of the Year Award at a Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce lunch at CenturyLink Center Omaha. Chuck Hagel, former Nebraska senator and U.S. secretary of defense will deliver the keynote address.

Feb. 11 – Distinguished Scientists recognition event, Durham Research Center Auditorium (tentative).

Feb. 19 – Noon, Durham Research Center Auditorium — The Robert S. Wigton Visiting Professorship of Medicine. Keynote speaker will be Vineet Arora, M.D., assistant dean of scholarship and discovery at the University of Chicago Medicine. Dr. Arora is an academic hospitalist who specializes in improving the learning environment for medical trainees and the quality, safety, and experience of care delivered to hospitalized adults.

March 23 – Breakthrough Thinking Conference (formerly known as the UNMC Strategic Planning Retreat) 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Hilton Omaha, 1001 Cass St. (by invitation only)

April 1 – Ronald Petersen, M.D., Ph.D., director of the Mayo Clinic Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center and the Mayo Clinic Study of Aging, will deliver the Denham Harman, M.D., Ph.D., Lectureship in Biomedical Gerontology, at noon in the Durham Research Center Auditorium.

April 14 – Culture Fest.

April 15-23 – Fourth annual Nebraska Science Festival.

April 22 – LeVar Burton, "Star Trek" actor and "Reading Rainbow" producer will share the impact mentors, technology, storytelling and science fiction have had on his life at 7:30 p.m. at the Joslyn Museum’s Witherspoon Concert Hall. Tickets become available on March 22.
