Historian and author Jeff Barnes will speak on “Buffalo Bill’s Omaha” at noon on Jan. 19 in the Sorrell Center, Room 2018.
Barnes’ discussion is presented by The Durham Museum as part of the Time Travelers Program.
“Buffalo Bill’s Omaha” covers Cody’s 45-year love affair with the city, including his front-page-news first visit in 1870, the premiere of his Wild West Show in 1883, his recognition at the Trans-Mississippi Exposition in 1898, and his farewell stop in 1915.
Barnes a fifth-generation Nebraskan, is a former newspaper reporter, editor and former marketing director of The Durham Museum. He is the author of “Forts of the Northern Plains,” “The Great Plains Guide to Custer,” “The Great Plains Guide to Buffalo Bill,” and “Extra Innings: The Story of Modisett Ball Park.”
The event is offered through the Time Travelers program, which provides free museum admission for medical center employees, students, and their immediate family with a valid identification badge, while also offering lectures, workshops and other events on the medical center campus.
Employees are encouraged to bring their lunch.
