As a result of an executive order signed by President Obama on Dec. 11, Gov. Pete Ricketts has announced that Nebraska state government agencies will observe a half-day paid holiday and will be closed to the public starting at noon Thursday, Dec. 24.
State law provides that whenever the president gives federal employees paid time off, the State of Nebraska shall grant the same benefit to state employees. To comply with the executive order, eligible UNMC employees will observe a half-day of administrative leave on Dec. 24.
Department time coordinators will need to manually adjust time records accordingly for eligible employees who previously posted a full day of leave on Dec 24. If you have any questions, or need assistance, please contact UNMC Payroll at (402) 559-7460.
- Employees who are required to work the afternoon on Dec. 24 will be paid for the time worked and also granted an additional four hours, which may be carried over for use in 2016 if necessary.
- Employees whose work schedules do not include the 1 to 5 p.m. time period, but who are scheduled to work on Dec. 24 will be permitted four hours paid administrative leave during their Dec. 24 scheduled work hours or will be paid for the hours worked and also granted four hours off at a later time.
- Employees who have already requested and have been granted leave time on Dec. 24 may access their leave time via Firefly’s Employee Self Service tab
to make necessary adjustments by processing a cancellation. Once the cancellation has been approved, employees can submit the appropriate planned leave. - Part-time leave eligible employees will be granted leave on a proportionate basis.
The campus also will be closed on the Christmas Holiday (Dec. 25) but it will be open on New Year’s Eve (Thursday, Dec. 31). Supervisors, however, should be as flexible as possible in allowing employees to use vacation leave or floating holidays on Dec. 31.
