Dec. 11 – Employee event at UNMC Ice Rink, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., food, prizes and skating – open to all employees.

Dec. 15 – Announcement of Helmsley Foundation mobile simulation project grant for rural Nebraska.

Dec. 18 – Winter Commencement, 2 p.m., Joslyn Art Museum.

Jan. 19 – MOMS Continuance of Care Networking Event, 6-7:30 p.m., Midtown Crossing Club Room, 9th floor, an event to strengthen referral networks for local physicians. The event is open to all Metro Omaha Medical Society members. Hors d’oeuvres and beverages will be served.

Jan. 22-23 – UNMC Skate-a-thon for Parkinson’s, UNMC Ice Rink, a 24-hour skating event to raise money for Parkinson’s disease research at UNMC.

Jan. 26-27 – Student Wellbeing Symposium, Lotte Dyrbye, M.D., of the Mayo Clinic will be keynote speaker. She is an expert on burnout, quality of life, and depression as they pertain to medical students.

Jan. 31 – Last day to skate at the UNMC Ice Rink.

Feb. 9 — UNMC will receive the Headliner of the Year Award from the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce. The award will be given at a lunch at CenturyLink Center Omaha. Chuck Hagel, former Nebraska senator and U.S. secretary of defense, will deliver the keynote address.

Feb. 11 – Distinguished Scientists recognition event, Durham Research Center Auditorium (tentative).

March 23 – Breakthrough Thinking Conference (formerly known as the UNMC Strategic Planning Retreat) 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Hilton Omaha, 1001 Cass St. (by invitation only)

March 24-25 – Conference for high school students interested in the health professions. For more information, contact Heidi Kaschke, 402-559-1358, program director, UNMC High School Alliance.

April 1 – Ronald Petersen, M.D., Ph.D., director of the Mayo Clinic Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center and the Mayo Clinic Study of Aging, will deliver the Denham Harman, M.D., Ph.D., Lectureship in Biomedical Gerontology, at noon in the Durham Research Center Auditorium.

April 14 – Culture Fest.

April 15-23 – Fourth annual Nebraska Science Festival.

April 22 – Anatomical Donor Memorial Service, 6 p.m., Truhlsen Events Center.

April 25 – UNMC Board of Counselors (by invitation only)

May 7 – Omaha commencement at Baxter Arena.

May 7 – American Heart Association Walk (UNMC Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D. is one of the key volunteers in the event).
