The UNMC College of Public Health will be hosting the 2015 Nebraska Policy Forum, “Charting a Course for a Healthier Nebraska,” presented by the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Dec. 9 at the Maurer Center for Public Health, Room 3013.
The event will focus on colorectal cancer screening and tobacco prevention. During this event, discussions will include legislative, clinical, and personal perspectives on prevention covering the importance of colon cancer screening and reducing tobacco use.
Ali S. Khan, M.D., M.P.H., dean of the College of Public Health, said the college was pleased to be hosting the event.
“The College of Public Health is being increasingly seen as an important leader, partner, and voice for cancer prevention in Nebraska,” he said. “As we pursue our goal of making Nebraska the healthiest state in the nation by 2020, we must tackle cancer as the leading cause of death. New and innovative prevention-based efforts and policies are critical to supplement our renowned treatment and research efforts.
“I am pleased that David Holmquist, Nebraska’s government relations director for the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network chose UNMC as a partner and site for this important event.”
Guest speakers will include leading health professionals, citizen-volunteers, and health care advocates. There is no cost to attend.
