The Food for Health Initiative, a university-wide program spearheaded by University of Nebraska President Hank Bounds, Ph.D., is accepting requests for applications (RFA).
This program is designed to increase multi-institution collaborations and incentivize new research that will address critical societal and human health issues related to food and important to Nebraskans. The goal of the program is to better leverage multi-campus intellectual capacity in order to strengthen competitiveness for federal research funding.
UNMC Vice Chancellor for Research Jennifer Larsen, M.D., who participated in Dr. Bounds’ Nov. 13 retreat to generate ideas among faculty from throughout the University of Nebraska system, called the retreat a great success.
“The next step is the Food for Health RFA,” she said. “We hope this mechanism provides the incentives to continue to work together with faculty of other campuses towards a common goal of greater research funding opportunities.”
There are three funding mechanisms associated with this program:
- planning grants: funding up to $20,000 total for one year;
- seed grants for new teams: funding up to $150,000 total over two years; and
- seed grants for existing teams: Funding up to $300,000 total over two years.
The complete RFA can be found here.
UNMC principal investigators should submit their applications to Deborah Hawkins no later than Jan. 6.
