Ted Mikuls, M.D.

Dr. Mikuls now vice chair for research in UNMC Department of Internal Medicine
Ted Mikuls, M.D., Umbach Professor of Rheumatology, accepted the role of vice chair for research in the UNMC Department of Internal Medicine effective Sept. 1. “We are extremely fortunate to have Ted in this position. He is a remarkable investigator — productive, focused and passionate — and will assist the department in growing its research mission,” said Debra Romberger, M.D., chair of the department, in announcing Dr. Mikuls’ new position.

Medical students raise $2,000 at golf tournament to help people with speech, language therapy

UNMC medical students from Phi Rho Sigma Medical Society presented a $2,000 check to representatives of the Munroe-Meyer Institute and the Scottish Rite Foundation on Oct. 22. Participants included speech therapist Korey Stading, medical student Lindsey Kendrick, speech therapist Leslie Van Winkle, medical student Sasha Kapil, speech therapist Beth Hughes, Micah Evans of the Scottish Rite Foundation of Omaha, and Amy Nordness, Ph.D., director of the Munroe-Meyer Institute’s RiteCare Speech & Language Clinic. The money will be used for support services at the clinic. The funds, raised at a Sept. 27 golf scramble held by Phi Ro Sigma, will provide 20 sessions of speech and language therapy to clients of the clinic.

Third-year student named to advisory panel post with AMA

R. Logan Jones, a third-year College of Medicine student, has been elected to serve on the Accelerating Change in Medical Education National Advisory Panel for the American Medical Association. Jones, who is curriculum chair for his medical school class, also serves as chair of the AMA-Medical Student Section Standing Committee on Medical Education. He also is a medical student board member for the Nebraska Medical Association.
