COM Student of the Month – Meet Laura Zima

Editor’s Note: Each month, InterCOM will highlight a “Student of the Month” from the College of Medicine. Students will be featured for their participation in activities outside of medical school and for making a difference in the community. The goal is to recognize students for what they are doing and to encourage other students to get involved in the community. After all, medical school should be much more than studying.

Personal:

Name: Laura Zima

Hometown: Originally from Granville, Ohio

Program/Year: College of Medicine/M1 (I’ve almost survived anatomy.)

Education:  Psychology major, Occidental College in Los Angeles

Activities:

I am just starting to find the activities I want to join, so far I am a member of AMWA (American Medical Women’s Association), Empower, the psychiatry interest group, and the neurology interest group.

Hobbies:

I love to exercise, especially yoga, and play with my cat.

Staying Balanced:

If something’s important to me I make sure to make time for it. Although medical school has been an adjustment from college, I always make time to exercise and spend time with family and friends. I really believe doing those things for myself helps me be a better student and someday a better physician.

List three things people may not know about you:

I’ve driven across the country five times.

“Friends” is my favorite TV show.

I’m terrified of bugs.
