The Nebraska Science Festival is looking for dynamic and dedicated UNMC experts to share their excitement about science with students at the public expos or in middle school classes and afterschool programs as part of the Invite a Scientist program during the 2016 festival.
The fourth annual event will be held April 15-23, 2016, in Omaha and across the state. UNMC experts available that week would visit Nebraska schools through the Festival’s Invite-a-Scientist program or man a booth at one of the event’s expos at the Durham Museum in Omaha or the Strategic Air and Space Museum near Ashland, Neb.
Those interested in manning booths should submit applications to:
- Present hands-on, kid-friendly science booths at one of the free Science Expos. The expos for participating grade schools will be April 21 at the Strategic Air and Space Museum near Ashland, Neb., and April 22 at The Durham Museum in Omaha. A public expo is scheduled for April 23 at The Durham Museum.
- Host a science-related event during the festival week. Free community events are encouraged and should be accessible to the general public.
To be considered for the Science Expos and included in printed materials, applications should be submitted online at nescifest.com by Feb. 1. Community sites that want to host an event also should submit an application online here. Applications are subject to approval by the festival advisory committee.
The goal of the Invite-a-Scientist visit is to inspire middle-schoolers to consider science as a career and to understand how science impacts their lives. This is the second year for the Invite-a-Scientist program, which was well-received by students in 2015.
