Nebraska Science Festival registration opens today

The 2016 Nebraska Science Festival may be months away, but organizers are encouraging teachers to register their classes now for the free Science Expos and/or opportunity to invite a science expert into their classroom.

The fourth annual Nebraska Science Festival – scheduled for April 15-23, 2016 – will feature an array of science- and technology-related activities in communities across the state. Educators are invited to register their classes for the:

  • Student Expos – Teachers may register to have their students participate in fun and engaging hands-on learning opportunities either at the Strategic Air & Space Museum on April 21 or The Durham Museum on April 22. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis and fills quickly. Teachers should visit www.nescifest.com and register their classes (the expos are geared toward third- through fifth-graders) for either an 8:45 to 11:15 a.m. slot, or an 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. slot.
  • Bring a Scientist to School Program – Teachers may schedule a University of Nebraska science expert to visit their classroom. A list of topics, presentation lengths and available dates will be mailed at a later date to those who register. Participation is limited so register early at www.nescifest.com.

Beyond the Student Expos, the public is encouraged to mark their calendars for the free Science Expo on April 23 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Durham Museum. A variety of hands-on science booths will be available for all people of all ages to broaden their knowledge on different science topics.
