German chef headed to campus cafes

It’s going to be a big week for the Food Services staff and an adventurous one for its customers. That’s because well-respected sous chef Fatih Kurt will create German menus as part of Sodexo’s Global Chef program in Nebraska Cafe, Clarkson Cafe and Bellevue’s cafeteria on Oct. 13 and 15.

“We are very fortunate to host Chef Kurt here at Nebraska Medicine,” said Thomas Hoffman, director of Food and Nutrition at Sodexo. “This is a unique opportunity for both our staff and those who dine in our cafes.”

Every year, Sodexo chooses executive chefs to travel to other countries for its Global Chef program.

“Sodexo is an international company,” Hoffman said. “We have chefs all over the world. It gives us an opportunity to work with a European chef and to learn new techniques and ingredients. Chef Kurt will work alongside our front-line staff.”

He also will mingle with customers, answering questions and discussing German food.

Chef Kurt’s menu will be served in the Nebraska Cafe and Clarkson Cafe on Oct. 13, and in Bellevue on Oct. 15. His food also will be showcased during the UNMC Board of Counselors dinner on Oct. 12.

“This is a great opportunity for us,” Hoffman said. “I hope people stop by and enjoy it.”
