Dr. Zheng attends White House ceremony
Jialin Zheng, M.D., professor, pharmacology/experimental neuroscience, and associate dean, graduate studies, was one of 42 U.S. scholars who were invited to attend the White House welcome ceremony for Chinese President Xi Jimping on Sept. 25. The ceremony was attended by U.S. President Barack Obama. The scholars are Chinese-Americans from different U.S. higher education institutions who have helped in promoting U.S.-China educational collaboration.

Gregory Karst, Ph.D., assistant dean for academic and student affairs in the College of Allied Health Professions, and Mary Ann Mertz, Ed.D., interim assistant dean of the College of Nursing, served as grand marshals for this year’s University of Nebraska at Kearney homecoming parade. They represented the strengthened partnership between UNMC and UNK, which includes program expansion and the opening of the Health Science Education Complex on the Kearney campus. The parade is one of UNK’s largest events of the year with nearly 10,000 spectators.

Women’s ‘speed mentoring’ event to be held Oct. 14
The UNMC Women’s Mentoring program is hosting a “speed” mentoring event on Wednesday, Oct. 14 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Truhlsen Events Center Room 1001. The goal of the mentoring event is to provide junior faculty the opportunity for brief but meaningful conversations with established faculty. The event is open to all women faculty and lunch will be provided. Registration is required, contact Leticia Tran.
