Faculty and staff from the UNMC College of Public Health and the McGoogan Library of Medicine will be participating in a conference called The Information Exchange, to be held Friday at the University of Nebraska at Omaha’s Kaneko Library in downtown Omaha.
The conference will focus on helping communities locate and strategize methods to provide better access to information and to generate ideas about what libraries are and how knowledge can be shared within a community to improve lives.
The conference is aimed at librarians, educators, business leaders, health care providers, activists, city planners and others who want to build resources in their community.
UNMC personnel taking part in the health portion of the event include:
- Denise Britigan, Ph.D., assistant professor of health promotion, social and behavioral health;
- Ellen Duysen, coordinator for the Central States Center for Agricultural Safety and Health;
- Teri Hartman, education and research services librarian;
- Christian Minter, education coordinator, National Network of Libraries of Medicine, MidContinental Region;
- Shireen Rajaram, Ph.D., associate professor, of health promotion, social and behavioral health;
- Athena Ramos, community health program manager, Center for Reducing Health Disparities; and
- Aaron Yoder, Ph.D., assistant professor of environmental, agricultural and occupational health.
In addition, Dr. Britigan, Dr. Rajaram, Hartman, Duysen and Ramos will be taking part in panel discussions. For more information about the programs, click here.
In addition to the health and safety panel, other areas of focus will include activism and public policy, arts and culture, documentation and presentation, economics, law and advocacy and tech and design.
The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is free and open to the public. The Kaneko UNO Library is located at 1111 Jones St.
