Campus Safety Month events conclude this week with a fire extinguisher training event today and Thursday.
Safety department staff members will be on hand with UNMC’s electronic training fire extinguisher and will let students and staff members attempt to put out a simulated “fire.”
See Dr. Gold discuss safety month and demonstrate the electronic fire extinguisher.
The event will be held from 11:20 a.m. to 1 p.m. today and Thursday at the Ruth and Bill Scott Student Plaza at the Sorrell Center. Participants in the event will be entered into a drawing to win a prize.
“The training extinguisher is a fun tool, but it also is very informative,” said John Hauser, UNMC safety manager. “Using the electronic fire extinguisher, participants will discover how to sweep the extinguisher and to concentrate on the base of the fire. Most people can put out the simulated fire in 15 to 20 seconds, so I’ll be interested to see what kind of times our participants can put up.”
