A recepton will be held today for Peter Coccia, M.D., who will be stepping down as chair of the College of Medicine’s Promotion and Tenure Committee.
The event will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Linder Reading Room (Room 2001) on the second floor of the Sorrell Center, with remarks at 3:30 p.m. The campus is invited.
Dr. Coccia, who will remain in his position as the Ittner Professor of
Pediatrics, has been chair of the Promotion and Tenure Committee for 20 years.
“He has been such an advocate for faculty — helping them think about how they put their careers together in a way that leads them to promotion and tenure,” said Debra Romberger, M.D., Lehnhoff Professor and chair of internal medicine. “He has been so willing to meet with faculty to help them understand the process. He has helped departments and chairs understand their role in guiding their faculty. I learned so much from him when I was a member of the P and T Committee.”
Steve Lisco, M.D., professor and chair of the UNMC Department of Anesthesiology, will be succeeding Dr. Coccia as chair of the Promotion and Tenure Committee.
Godspeed, Peter, and thanks for your long, generous and distinguished role in standard-setting at UNMC.
John Benson, MD, Emeritus Professor of Internal Medicine
