How did you learn about the UNMC High School Alliance?
I first learned about the alliance through my school counselor, Micki Hernandez. She announced the opportunity over the intercom in the morning announcements the week before the application was due. That week I worked quickly to make a high-quality application and essay and get it submitted in time.
What sparked your interest in science?
My interest in science was sparked by watching sci-fi shows like “Star Trek” as a kid and by learning about new scientific discoveries from my older sister, Colleen. I was always interested in genetics and mutation, and when I heard about this program, I was hooked. Science is my passion.
What are your career aspirations?
I want to get my M.D. and become a surgeon or a researcher.
What has been the best part of your UNMC High School Alliance experience so far?
The new friends, amazing opportunities, and the atmosphere of being in a real medical center.
