Retirement reception set for Dr. Leibowitz

There will be a retirement reception for J. Michael Leibowitz, Ph.D., from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Sept. 11 in Private Dining Rooms A and B in the University Tower.
The campus is invited to the event, which will mark Dr. Leibowitz’ retirement as the director of the Munroe-Meyer Institute, a position he has held since 2009.

“Dr. Leibowitz has been a tireless and visionary leader for the Munroe-Meyer Institute,” said UNMC Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D.

“Since he took over as director in 2009, the institute has grown in stature both locally and nationally. With his emphasis on MMI’s educational, research, clinical and outreach missions, he and his staff have made a difference in the lives of thousands of children with developmental disabilities and their families. He will be a difficult man to replace, but we wish him well in his retirement.”

Wayne Stuberg, Ph.D., interim director of MMI, said the event will give MMI staff and other UNMC friends a chance to say goodbye to Dr. Leibowitz, who has been at MMI for more than 40 years.

“In addition to extending our best wishes for his retirement, this event is a chance to celebrate Mike’s many accomplishments at MMI,” Dr. Stuberg said. “Four decades of helping individuals with disabilities and their families — that’s a legacy to be proud of.”

Refreshments will be available at the event.
