INBRE scholars: Meet Dawson Johnson

Dawson Johnson

Twenty-four undergraduate students are spending the summer conducting research.

They are called INBRE scholars and are part of the largest grant in UNMC history.

Today we meet Dawson Johnson of Alliance, Neb., a molecular biology major at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.

Tell me about yourself. Who are your heroes?
I am a student at UNK going into my junior year and am a proud member of my fraternity, Pi Kappa Alpha. I am the oldest child in my family of four children. Family is very important to me and my hero is my Grandfather Jerry, who taught me that family always comes first.

What are your career goals?
My career goals right now are not set in stone, but I would like to end up doing research and potentially teach at a university.

How did you become interested in science?
I’ve been interested in science since my first science class. I have always enjoyed learning about life and all the mysteries life holds.

What do you hope the INBRE program will do for you?
I hope the INBRE program gives me some experience and some insight on what topic of research I would like to get into later in life. I also look forward to the networking I am able to do in this program.
