Editor’s Note: Each month, InterCOM will highlight a “Student of the Month” from the College of Medicine. Students will be featured for their participation in activities outside of medical school and for making a difference in the community. The goal is to recognize students for what they are doing and to encourage other students to get involved in the community. After all, medical school should be much more than studying.

Hobbies:
Outside of medical school, I really enjoy riding my bicycle. I have a BMC Gran Fondo, just in case there are any fellow cyclists out there. My goal this year is to put at least 2,500 miles on it (I'm about halfway there). Some of the longer rides I've done have included RAGBRAI (Register's Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa), the Great Allegheny Passage in Pennsylvania, and the Katy Trail in Missouri. I also did crew in college, and whenever time allows, I really enjoy getting out on the water.
Staying Balanced:
Spending time outside really helps me to balance out my school work and give me a much needed break. When I'm not riding my bike I'm usually outside camping, swimming, or hiking…at least until winter arrives. I also enjoy reading on my time off. I'm a big “Game of Thrones” fan.
Student Senate is another activity that helps me stay balanced. This year I'll be a part of the Activities Committee and will be in charge of coordinating Student Senate blood drives on campus. I also serve as IT liaison and help solve whatever issues might arise on the student side of things.
