- Name: Kim Bainbridge
- Hometown: Originally from Martinsburg, Neb., a metropolis of 100 individuals. I graduated from Ponca High School.
- No. of years at UNMC: Three years
Tell us a bit about what you do here at UNMC.
I am an administrative assistant at the Munroe-Meyer Institute (MMI) and also work in the business office. I serve as the liaison between MMI and five non-profits who support MMI with financial funding. One of the non-profits goes back to 1922 and is still serving individuals with disabilities. These non-profits not only raise funds for MMI, but through their fundraisers they raise awareness about MMI and the programs we offer for individuals and their families.
“Commitment to Excellence” is one of UNMC’s brand values. Tell us about a time you’ve seen a “commitment to excellence” at UNMC.
I have actually experienced MMI’s “commitment to excellence” for the past 26 years as a parent who has brought her son Justin (who has Down syndrome) for services at MMI. Everyone at MMI is committed to helping not only the individuals with developmental disabilities, but also their families. The team approach and the resources that Justin has received at MMI have helped make him who he is today. I was thrilled when the opportunity for me to actually work here happened three years ago. Now I am able to return that commitment to excellence to anyone I come in contact with here at MMI.
What is your favorite summer activity?
I love taking water aerobics in an outside pool when it is 90+ degrees and a full sun.
List three things people may not know about you.
- I grew up on a farm that was homesteaded in 1870 by my great-great grandfather which is still in my family (145 years). Nebraska became a state in 1867.
- I went to a two-room country school through seventh grade. (We were big time as we had two rooms!)
- I worked in a packing house and manufacturing plants to help pay for college.
Kim is an absolute joy to know and MMI is fortunate to have her on board!!
KIm does a wonderful job and is a great team member for all of us at MMI. This is the second time in my life that I've been lucky enough to work with Kim. (We were in manufacturing together!) She is an amazing person and her energy and accomplishments are inspiring. Kim can always be counted on, no matter what the need. She unselfishly keeps the ball moving forward to improve the lives of those with disabilities. Thank you Kim for all you do for me, for MMI, the MMI board and foundation and for the citizens of Nebraska. You are a treasure.
Kim is an awesome person. She works tirelessly for those with disabilities as well as for her co-workers at MMI. MMI is very lucky to have her, and I am very happy that I get to work with such a wonderful lady!
