Name:  Deanna (Mohr) Hansen

Hometown:  Bennington, Neb.

Talk about your job and what you like best about it:

I have been at UNMC for 25 years (since April 23, 1990). I have worked with the UNMC HIV team and Dr. Susan Swindells, HIV medical director, for 23 years, and for two years prior to that I worked in oncology/hematology.

What I like best about my job is the variety – no two days are alike. I also enjoy working with smart and intelligent people along with the challenges that are provided. We have a great team that works well together!

When there is a deadline, I appreciate how our team is able to pull a project all together. I always tell my colleagues not to spend more than five minutes on something. If you don’t know the answer, there is always someone else who might know how to do that particular task.

When I came to UNMC 25 year ago, one of the pediatric physicians I was working with was a UNMC alumna. She told me to be ready for change at UNMC. Boy, was she right with her assessment! There is change going on every day at UNMC. There is never a dull moment which I guess is one of the reasons I keep coming back for more!

Your favorite memory of working at UNMC:

My favorite memory of working at UNMC is the people I have met over the years and their friendships.

Hobbies:

My hobbies include reading, spending time with family and friends, meeting new people, watching sports (because some day I believe I will burn calories just watching them), and volunteering at church.

You might consider me as being one of the “church ladies” as I am very involved at church (altar guild, bible study, book club, lector/communion assistant, food pantry volunteer, serving at coffee hour, assisting at funeral luncheons, ushering, video tech and wedding coordinator).

List three things people may not know about you:

1. I was raised on a farm northwest of Omaha, so I can go home to the farm whenever I wish (although there is work to do there also).

2.  I have had a full-time job and a part-time job for 25 years. Currently, my part-time job is in Health Information Management in Processing at Nebraska Medicine on Monday through Friday evenings. With my farming background, working less than 60 hours/week is not permissible.  Therefore, I have the best of both worlds (UNMC and Nebraska Medicine).

3. If you Google my name, you will find other fun facts about myself in “Lookin’ at U – Deanna Hansen.” It was published in UNMC Today five years ago.  Within the past month, I have had a couple of people I didn’t know Google my name and commented on the article.
