Dr. Band honored as a Susan G. Komen ‘Pink Tie Guy’
Hamid Band, M.D., Ph.D., the Elizabeth Bruce Professor of Cancer Research in the Eppley Institute and the associate director of translational research at the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center, has been honored as one of three Pink Tie Guys by the Susan G. Komen Nebraska Foundation. Dr. Band was recognized Wednesday at the group’s Pink Ribbon Gala. Dr. Band studies how the body’s “cellular brakes” control our “cellular accelerators or gas pedals” and uses that knowledge to help devise and improve therapeutic approaches for difficult diseases such as cancer and autoimmunity.
Summer hours set for Sorrell C Store, lunch vendors
The Sorrell Center Convenience store will be open all summer, with hours from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Fridays. Lunch vendors also will be at the Sorrell Center all summer from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
CWS tickets on sale at UNMC
Books of College World Series tickets are now available on campus. Proceeds from the sale of the ticket books benefit The Lions Club, which supports low vision programs at UNMC. Books cost $85 and contain 10 general admission tickets each. Only cash or checks are accepted. Make checks payable to College World Series and send them via campus courier to Diana Murphy at ZIP 1225 with a return ZIP and your name. You also can purchase tickets at Diana’s office in University Tower, Room 3150. The 2015 College World Series will begin with an opening ceremony on June 12.
