UNMC and Nebraska Medicine have unveiled a new mission statement.
The statement (see box below) was announced Thursday by UNMC Chancellor and Nebraska Medicine Advisory Board Chairman Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D.

“We are Nebraska Medicine and UNMC.
“Our mission is to lead the world in transforming lives to create a healthy future for all individuals and communities through premier educational programs, innovative research and extraordinary patient care.”
The new mission statement is a product of many months of work that began with a breakthrough intensive planning retreat that Nebraska Medicine and UNMC leaders attended last summer.
“Since then, the mission statement has been refined by a myriad of faculty, students, staff, alumni and other community members to truly reflect our organizations’ shared purpose,” Dr. Gold said.
“To truly succeed, all of UNMC and Nebraska Medicine — whether they are focused on research, education, clinical care or outreach services — must collaborate and cooperate toward the common goals of the overall medical center, toward a clear and focused mission. Only through these shared vision, values and goals will we thrive in our current and future health care environments as a world-class academic medical center.”
The mission statement was unanimously endorsed by the Nebraska Medicine Board of Directors and provides a foundation from which to build the organizations’ short and long-term goals.
“The statement greatly reflects the legacy and future of this incredible health care system,” said Rosanna Morris, interim CEO of Nebraska Medicine. “It captures the spirit of our strategic focus, highest priorities and commitment to service. I was honored to be a part of its development in the early stages and am thrilled to see its launch across UNMC and Nebraska Medicine at this time.”
The statement reflects a Nebraska health care organization focused on transforming lives, said Brad Britigan, M.D., president of Nebraska Medicine and dean of the UNMC College of Medicine.
“At Nebraska Medicine and UNMC, our discoveries, innovations and treatments truly change lives,” Dr. Britigan said. “This mission statement captures who we are and why we do what we do.”
