Sue Nuss, Ph.D., has been selected to serve as Nebraska Medicine’s interim chief nursing officer. She succeeds Rosanna Morris, who was named interim chief executive officer a few weeks ago.
Dr. Nuss has been with Nebraska Medicine since 1996, when she moved from New Jersey to be the clinical nurse specialist in the Pediatric Oncology/Stem Cell Transplant Program. She has nursing degrees from Syracuse University (B.S.N.), Seton Hall University (M.S.N.) and University of Nebraska Medical Center (Ph.D.) and has practiced nursing in New York, New Jersey and Nebraska. Most of her nursing career has been in pediatric oncology/stem cell transplant.
“Sue has worked with the nursing division as well as with our nursing partners for the past several years,” Morris said. “She is quite committed to the professional practice of nursing and sets a great example of what nurses can accomplish from clinical care, to educational preparation and executive leadership. She is a natural to take this role forward, and I have every confidence that nursing across the system will continue to grow and thrive with Sue as its leader.”

Dr. Nuss has been a member of the Children’s Oncology Group where she served as the co-chair of the Nursing Research Committee for several years. She was also the head nurse for Camp Happy Times (a pediatric oncology camp) in New Jersey and was previously on the board of directors for Camp Quality, USA.
During her tenure at Nebraska Medicine, she has been the recipient of the Catie Wood (pediatric oncology) and the Carol Wilson (nursing quality) awards. Dr. Nuss transitioned from pediatric oncology into nursing administration seven years ago and most recently has been in the role of executive director of nursing practice and care transitions. She also serves on the Nebraska Health Network Board.
