LCME site visit set for April 26-28

Since our original site visit in October 2013, the College of Medicine has reviewed the concerns of the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) and developed and implemented a robust plan to address the deficiencies.

The Curriculum Committee has been empowered so as to have full accountability and control of the curriculum, thereby taking full responsibility for monitoring, reviewing, modifying, and improving the educational process for students.

Two curricular retreats have been held, resulting in a comprehensive review of the current curriculum. A Curriculum Innovations Work Group has recommended a potential “new” curriculum plan. The Office of Medical Education has expanded its role in monitoring the curriculum for the Curriculum Committee.

Here’s a detailed summary of the response to the citations received.

The original review by LCME has stimulated the College of Medicine to review its entire approach to education.

We have developed and implemented programs that correct the deficiencies identified in the prior site visit. In addition, we have sought to create an environment of ongoing self-assessment, reflection and support for creativity which will allow us to be a leader in innovation in medical education.

The limited site visit with the LCME has been scheduled for April 26-28. The schedule for the site visitors has been established and teams will be meeting to prepare for the visit.
