New title and department at UNMC: Assistant professor of
ophthalmology and visual sciences, Truhlsen Eye Institute

Research and professional interests:
Cataract, corneal and refractive surgery; corneal and external diseases.

How I fell in love with ophthalmology:
When I was in medical school, I found ophthalmology and particularly eye surgery very interesting and decided it was the field I wanted to enter. I later became interested in laser refractive surgery procedures such as LASIK as well as corneal transplantation. I also am very interested in advanced cataract surgery techniques including specialized intraocular lens implants and the use of femtosecond lasers in cataract surgery. I enjoy being able to incorporate the most advanced technology available to improve outcomes for my patients, including performing keratoprosthesis (implanting plastic, artificial cornea) for patients with chemical burns and other significant corneal diseases.

  • B.S., biological sciences, University of Nebraska-Lincoln
  • M.D., UNMC College of Medicine
