Feb. 28 — 46th Midwest Student Biomedical Research Forum.

March 5 – Nancy Snyderman, M.D., chief medical editor for NBC News and a UNMC College of Medicine alumnus (Class of 1977), will present at a student forum on the UNMC campus.

March 5 – Nebraska Legislature Appropriations Committee to hold hearing to discuss bills of interest to UNMC.

March 6 — Attendees of the men’s hockey game at 7:30 p.m. between the University of Nebraska at Omaha and Colorado College at the CenturyLink Center can enjoy a sneak preview of the Nebraska Science Festival. A variety of hands-on activities will be available at the SciFest booth located at the top of the main escalators and just to the south of where people pass through the gate attendants.

March 8 – Change over to daylight savings time.

March 17 – Gilmore Award will be given to Melissa Teoh-Fitzgerald, Ph.D., biochemistry and molecular biology.

March 18 – Jen Bartholomew, facilities director, UNMC/Nebraska Medicine, will present at the PDC Summit 2015 in San Antonio on the Biocontainment Unit at Nebraska Medicine. She will be joined by John Andrews, vice president for Leo A. Daly Co., the firm that designed the unit. The presentation will highlight the special design and engineering features that enhance the safety of this facility, reveal new design considerations specific to the treatment of Ebola, and offer best practices for the future of biocontainment patient care design.

March 20 – Match Day for fourth-year medical students.

March 20 – Harman Lecture, noon, Durham Research Center Auditorium. James Kirkland, M.D., Ph.D., professor, Mayo Clinic, will deliver the lecture. His major area of research is the impact of cellular aging (senescence) on age-related dysfunction and chronic diseases.

March 21 – Ambassador of Hope Gala at the CenturyLink Center. Amy Robach, “Good Morning America” news anchor, will receive the Ambassador of Hope Award.

March 27 – 10th anniversary of Biocontainment Unit.

March 27 – Tour of Omaha on Ollie the Trolley for UNMC/Nebraska Medicine employees. Tour takes 75 minutes and leaves at noon from the Sorrell Center. Cost is $10. For more information, contact Anna Kirshenbaum, public relations, 559-4318.

April 3 – “Living with Cancer in Nebraska,” airs at 7 p.m. on NET1. Several UNMC oncologists are being interviewed for this special program.

April 9 – Culture Fest.

April 13 – Dr. Hank Bounds will begin as president of the University of Nebraska.

April 10-18 – Nebraska Science Festival.

April 16 – Strategic planning retreat for campus leadership team, Marriott Hotel.

April 18 – The Holi Festival, a Hindu spring festival, will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Ruth and Bill Scott Student Plaza.

April 20 – Coalition for Lifesaving Cures luncheon to honor Wally and Barbara Weitz, Happy Hollow Club.

April 23 – Annual Faculty Senate meeting.

April 23 — 7TH Annual Richard B. Davis, M.D., Ph.D. History of Medicine Lecture, noon (box lunch available at 11:30), Eppley Science Hall Auditorium. Judith Leavitt, Ph.D., department of medical history, University of Wisconsin, Madison, will discuss medical and social issues in American childbirth history.

April 24 – Anatomical donor memorial service, 6 p.m., Truhlsen Events Center.

April 26-29 – LCME site visit for College of Medicine. 

May 9 – UNMC commencement in Omaha.
