The award-winning play “The Journey” will be presented from noon to 1 p.m. Friday in the Eppley Science Hall amphitheater.
The production, written and produced by Peggy Jones and directed by Denise Chapman, focuses on Aaron Douglas, known as the father of the Harlem Renaissance and the first black graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Art Department in 1922.
Douglas’ artwork provided both an affirmative mirror for African-descended people as well as an alternative to the racist propaganda of the day.
Lunch is provided to the first 50 participants, and registration is required. To register log on to UNMC Employee Services, click on the Education tab, then on Event Registration.
