Some facts about the honors convocation:

  • The event was held at the Durham Museum, which is housed in Omaha’s former Union Station.
  • Attendees celebrated the accomplishments of 5 M.S. graduates and 30 Ph.D. graduates, hailing from 8 states and 9 countries (including the U.S.).
  • The keynote speaker was Janet Gilsdorf, M.D., an esteemed pediatrician and epidemiologist from the University of Michigan. She was presented with a paperweight made with glass that contains ash from the 1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens.
  • Two graduates (Krupa Savalia and Soumitra Bhuyan) were honored as Graduate Students of Distinction, in recognition of national and international awards garnered while students at UNMC. You can read about them at our website.
