Sixty members of the UNMC High School Alliance are among the students taking classes at UNMC this academic year.
The students come from high schools around the Omaha area and take college-level classes at UNMC to prepare for health careers.
Today we meet:
- Name: Sydney Rheault
- High school: Papillion-La Vista High School
- Year: Junior
How did you get involved in the UNMC High School Alliance?
I applied for a health academy at my school and didn’t get in, so my mom helped me look around for other opportunities and she came across the High School Alliance. I researched it and found many things I knew I would love about it so I applied and I was so happy that I got in and got the chance to experience the great things HSA provides!
What sparked your interest in science?
I became interested in science because I was always good at it, and I liked to know what caused different things. I specifically love the medicine side of science because it is all about what happens to people, how to prevent, and how to stop certain things from happening to people. I have always wanted to have a career that deals with helping people and making a difference in their lives.
What are your career aspirations?
I plan on going to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for two years then transferring to the College of Nursing here at UNMC so that I can become a nurse in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
What has been the best part of your UNMC High School Alliance experience so far?
The best part has been to take challenging classes and do well. I’ve also made great friends with people from other schools.
