For the past several years, the UNMC Department of Public Relations has been creating brief one-minute videos each week for KETV (Ch. 7) in Omaha. The videos feature UNMC faculty as they answer basic questions of interest to the average viewer. The segments run on KETV’s morning newscasts on Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays. They also are distributed to other Nebraska TV and radio stations after they air on Ch. 7.
Here’s a sampling of four of the videos:
Video 1: Anita Jaynes, certified nurse midwife, obstetrics/gynecology, “I am three weeks from my due date and miserable, why won’t my doctr induce me early?”
Video 2: Gib Willett, Ph.D., genetics, cell biology & anatomy, “How do I stay warm when attending an outdoor activity in cold weather?”
Video 3: Don Leopold, M.D., otolaryngology/head and neck surgery, “My nose is more plugged on one side, over the counter medicines don't help, what can be done?”
Video 4: Howard Liu, M.D., psychiatry, “My son continues to receive hateful text messages on his cell phone from kids who once were his friends. What should I do?”
Nebraska Medicine feature video: Sharon's Story – Nebraska Medicine
Sharon Raburn was in the process of donating a kidney to her brother when she discovered she needed a kidney herself. As she got sicker, the normally energetic Raburn spent most of her time in bed, and lacked the energy necessary for even the simplest tasks. Fortunately, her time waiting for a kidney transplant was short. Today, she's back to enjoying her family and is the same energetic person she used to be. Sharon credits the transplant team at Nebraska Medicine for giving her life back and providing a level of extraordinary care she didn't believe to be possible before coming here.
