Toys for Tots drive seeks families needing assistance
The College of Public Health’s Center for Reducing Health Disparities will once again participate in the local Toys for Tots campaign. The center is accepting applications from qualified families who would like to provide toys to their children, infants to 12 years old, this holiday season. Stop by the center office on the first floor of the Maurer Center for Public Health before Dec. 5 to apply. The center also is accepting unwrapped toys for children. Clothing drive, with a side of reading
The School of Allied Health Profession’s Radiation Science Technology Education (RSTE) students delivered coats, hats and gloves at Miller Park Elementary School on Nov. 20. Afterward, they stayed at the school to read books and munch apple slices with the pre-kindergarten students.
Adopting families, singing for seniors

The UNMC Community Academy Student Advisory Group Holiday Outreach Project for this year is the adoption of two families through Lutheran Family Services. Student Advisory Group members collected funds and went shopping for the two families. The gifts will be delivered to Lutheran Family Services on Dec. 2. The group will also be visiting St. Joe’s Villa on Dec. 20 to distribute handmade Christmas cards and carol with the residents.
Winter Essentials Drive aims to help families through season
The Student Ambassadors of the UNMC School of Allied Health Professions are holding a Winter Essentials Drive through Dec. 1. Dropboxes are located throughout Bennett Hall to accept clothing, bedding, toiletries and packaged foods. For more information, click here.
Goody bags, clothing drive aim to make holidays brighter
The UNMC College of Nursing-Northern Division has joined efforts with Northeast Community College to provide bags of snacks to patients of the Norfolk Regional Center who do not have family and/or are unable to participate in work therapy. The division also is holding a clothing drive for patients of the facility. People who wish to help can send monetary donations for snack bag purchases by Dec. 15 to: UNMC College of Nursing, Attn: Kristi Brummels, 801 E. Benjamin Ave., Norfolk, NE 68701.
Gift cards provide groceries for struggling families
The Munroe-Meyer Institute Board of Directors and The Hattie B. Munroe Foundation have given $150 grocery gift cards to 29 families who have accessed services at the Munroe-Meyer Institute. Families were nominated by the MMI employees who provide services to these families. Families who were nominated are from the greater Omaha area, outstate Nebraska and southwest Iowa. All of these families have a family member with a developmental disability.
