“Kathy has worked tirelessly for the betterment of the trauma program for as long as it has been in existence at UNMC,” said Joseph Stothert, M.D., Ph.D., UNMC Section of Trauma and Critical Care Surgery. “She has truly been the heart and soul of the program. She will be missed greatly.”
Shelly Schwedhelm, director of emergency department, trauma & preparedness services, called Warren a longtime advocate for trauma education, injury prevention and all other aspects of trauma care.
“She is fondly referred to in the trauma community as ‘trauma mama,'” Schwedhelm said. “Kathy was instrumental in the development of the trauma system across the state. Her leadership and contributions to the improvement in trauma care for our community and state have been extraordinary.”
The event will be held in University Tower’s Private Dining Room C. Refreshments, including hot and cold appetizers and drinks, will be served.
Warren began working for UNMC and the Department of Surgery more than 36 years ago in the trauma/critical care surgery section. Her last day was Sept. 30, but she will return to UNMC to participate in outreach events in October and November, not officially retiring until December.
