Lookin’ at U – Katina Winters

Katina Winters

Each Thursday, we randomly feature a medical center employee. This week, we learn more about:

  • Name: Katina Winters
  • Hometown: Bellevue
  • No. of years at UNMC: 13

Tell us a bit about what you do here at UNMC:
I am an office associate for the department of pharmaceutical sciences at the College of Pharmacy. I joined the department at the end of February 2014. It would be difficult for me to put in writing what I do specifically, but to sum it up, I specifically support the entire department and the graduate program. In my recent transition, what I have learned is that while our departments function with different responsibilities, we are still one team in the College of Pharmacy.

Commitment to excellence is one of UNMC’s brand values. Tell us of a time you witnessed a person or group who are committed to excellence at UNMC:
That is a tough question. What is most wonderful about working on a campus such as UNMC is, every day I get the opportunity to see the amazing processes and astonishments. When I worked for cardiology, I had the opportunity to see firsthand how important the patients are to the physicians. They are not just a “patient” they are a human being that each of the physicians care for, working to help them succeed in a healthy life style and saving lives. All the areas of this campus are committed to excellence and have a special story of a time they saved a life or worked to save lives; it is just too difficult to name one specifically. As each day passes our campus is doing something to transform medicine into saving lives.

What is your favorite fall activity?
Walking the trails of Fontenelle Forest and the Bellevue Nature Trail; fall is the perfect time to capture the beautiful colors in the change of seasons.

List three things people may not know about you.

  • I wanted to be an attorney growing up.
  • I almost joined the Marines right out of high school.
  • I am a certified fitness instructor.
