Eileen Kingston has been appointed acting director, VA Nebraska-Western Iowa Health Care System. She has been serving as associate director for patient care/nurse executive since 1996.
Prior to her VA tenure, Kingston served in private and government health care systems focusing on medical/utilization management in nursing and patient care services. She also has directed utilization management activities and medical surgical nursing in the insurance industry.
Kingston has a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Nebraska at Omaha and a bachelor’s of nursing degree from UNMC. She is certified in nursing administration by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
She has served on various VA committees including as chair of the VA National Nurse Executive Council Nursing Workforce Workgroup and as nurse executive representative to the VA National Nurse Executive Council. She serves on the Workforce Development Council and Executive Leadership Council for the Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN) 23. She also served as a member of National VA Nursing Commission under Anthony Principi, secretary of Veterans Affairs.
Kingston’s professional affiliations and community activities include membership in the American Organization of Nurse Executives, Nebraska Organization of Nurse Executives and American Health Care Executives.
She has served as president of the Nebraska Organization of Nurse Executives Distrist 1, chaired the Membership Committee/Nebraska Organization of Nurse Executives, and the Education Committee/Nebraska Organization of Nurse Executives.
Kingston replaces Marci Mylan, Ph.D., who served as director for the past two years. Dr. Mylan has taken a position as a psychologist at the Minneapolis VA medical center.
