The Nebraska Medical Center Patient Food Services team has been awarded the 2014 Spirit of Sodexo Award for North America, beating out 950 other nominations from the nearly 7,000 Sodexo business units in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.
The team was selected as the gold level finalist for North America for all divisions of Sodexo after winning the health care division, regional and national level finals.
“The Spirit of Sodexo Awards are the most prestigious awards in Sodexo North America. The awards are based on our mission and values statements,” said Paul Turner, resident district manager with Sodexo at The Nebraska Medical Center.
The Sodexo mission is to improve the quality of life for all the people they serve. Sodexo values are team spirit, service spirit and spirit of progress.
The Team Spirit Award recipients are Maya Beckerman, Sodexo patient services manager, Cherylyn Gifford, patient advocate, Robert King, patient services manager, and Catherine Miedl, hospitality general manager.
Miedl said every Patient Food Services team member can feel part of the award win.
“This team does an amazing job enhancing the patient experience,” she said. “The most important way to have thriving teamwork is to recognize we are all a part of a patient’s healing process at the hospital.”
The Patient Services team serves more than 1,000 meals per day, with the goal of each meal order being accurate and reaching the patient within 45 minutes from placing the order.
Miedl credits all team members for improving their own job strengths which, in turn, contributes to the overall team improvements. She added that the Sodexo Team Spirit Award affirms all the improvements that are continually being made to ensure the best outcomes by the Patient Food Services team.
“The award is a great honor and a huge surprise. It is quite the accomplishment when we look back at all the progress we have been making,” she said. “However, it’s not the top of the mountain for us. We are always looking forward, to seek new ways to provide extraordinary care.”
Kudos to the whole team! There task is not an easy one and to attain this level means that each and every person has to have the same goals in mind. Congratulations to all!
