Howard Gendelman, M.D.
UNMC’s Howard Gendelman, M.D., chair of the UNMC Department of Pharmacology and Experimental Neuroscience and Margaret R. Larson Professor of Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases and will speak about his research on Parkinson’s disease from 2 to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, July 29. Shilpa Buch, Ph.D.

Shilpa Buch, Ph.D., professor of pharmacology and experimental neuroscience, and members of her lab have an article published in the July 14 issue of Nature Communications. A link to the the article, entitled “MiR-9 promotes microglial activation by targeting MCPIP1,” can be found here, along with a complete list of contributing researchers. In addition to Dr. Buch, other UNMC-affiliated authors on the article, all members of Dr. Buch’s lab, include Lu Yang, Rong Ma, Guoku Hu, Ph.D., Yeonhee Kook, Fang Niu and Ke Liao. In addition, Yang will give a seminar this morning at 9 a.m., entitled “Role of IP3R2 in HIV Tat Mediated Astrogliosis: Involvement of ER stress in HAND,” at the Durham Research Center Auditorium, Room 1002.

Katie Asbjornson
UNMC College of Dentistry fourth-year student Katie Asbjornson was named one of the The L.D. Pankey Foundation’s 2014 Dr. Donald C. “Ozzie” Asbjornson Scholarship Competition winners. The scholarship, open to dental students and residents, was named in honor of Donald C. ” Ozzie” Asbjornson, D.D.S., Katie Asbjornson’s grandfather and a UNMC alumnus. Katie Asbjornson will receive complimentary registration to the Pankey Institute’s annual meeting in South Beach, Fla., in September, as well as a stipend for travel. Recipients are also paired with a mentor throughout the conference.
