M.U.D. has begun the installation of new utilities at Emile and 45th Streets as part of the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center project.
Work in front of the Durham Outpatient Center circle drive is now under way, resulting in vehicular lane restrictions along Emile Street. Drivers exiting the circle drive are required to turn eastbound, and pedestrians are required to use the Emile Street pedestrian walkway between Lot 50 and Durham Outpatient Center. The walkway has been shifted just east of its former location.
Concurrently, M.U.D. crews are working at the intersection of 45th and Emile Streets. Unforeseen existing utility connections require more extensive work at 45th Street than originally anticipated. The west lane along 45th Street is now restricted for this work; however, access to and from Green/Lot 2 visitor parking will be maintained at all times. Pedestrian traffic between Lot 50 and the Durham Research Centers is required to use the east walkway on 45th Street.
Depending on water testing results, work in both areas may extend into the second week of July.
During construction, flagmen will be on site to direct traffic. Drivers and pedestrians are asked to exercise extreme caution and pay attention to posted signage, as lane restrictions and traffic direction changes will be ongoing.
