Harold Andersen will deliver the Harold and Marian Andersen Lecture this weekend at the UNMC orthopaedic graduation ceremonies.
Andersen, former publisher of the Omaha World-Herald, will speak on Friday, as will visiting professor Daniel Sucato, M.D., department of orthopaedic surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas and director of the Sarah M. and Charles E. Seay/Martha and Pat Beard Center for Excellence in Spine Research.
Andersen will speak on his international experience as president of the International Federation of Newspaper Publishers, while Dr. Sucato will discuss hip preservation in the adolescent and young adult.
The chief residents, who will be recognized during the ceremonies on Friday and Saturday, and their chosen fellowship opportunities are:
- Kevin Lindgren, M.D.: Adult Reconstruction Fellowship, University of Utah, Salt Lake City.
- Khalid Azzam, M.D.: Adult Reconstruction Fellowship, Rush University, Chicago.
- David Minges, M.D.: Spine Fellowship, University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh.
The Harold and Marian Andersen Lectureship for Orthopaedic Surgery was established to bring a non-orthopaedic speaker to the department’s resident graduation ceremonies each year.
Friday’s event will run from 8 to 11:30 a.m. in the Sorrell Center, Room 1005, and will feature final oral presentations from the graduating residents as well as the visiting speakers.
On Saturday, a symposium will be held from 8 to 11:30 a.m. in the Sorrell Center, Room 1005, featuring case-based discussions of young patients with hip and spine deformities and a closing presentation by Dr. Sucato titled “Management of Complex Spinal Deformity.”
