Lookin’ at U – Rick Pruch

Rick Pruch

Each Thursday, we randomly feature a medical center employee. This week, we learn more about:

  • Name: Rick Pruch
  • Hometown: Omaha
  • No. of years at UNMC: 32

Tell us a bit about what you do here at UNMC.

I started at the gym, then the fitness center, and I’m now at the Center for Healthy Living. I have been coordinating intramural leagues and special events for most of my time at UNMC. This last year I gave up my whistle to supervise the employees and the intramural programs at the Center for Healthy Living. I’ve been through a few renovations of our department’s facility, and one more was just passed by the regents. Growth is slow for us in the recreation department, but we do continue to grow.

“Being a trusted resource” is one of UNMC’s brand values. Tell us about a person or group you consider a “trusted resource” at UNMC.
In my new position, if I had an employee paperwork problem, I could always trust the guys in employee records to help get me back on track.

What is your favorite spring activity?
Once it warms up, I love getting on my bike. Taco rides with friends and family are so much fun.

List three things people may not know about you.

  • Most of my family vacations are to national parks: Yellowstone, Smoky Mountains, Grand Canyon, Everglades and Yosemite, to name a few.
  • My kids are now both out of high school . . . yippee!!
  • When I’m not biking, playing tennis or golfing, I like to watch almost all sports, once they get to tournament time. The games mean more. There is more effort all the time. Win or go home.

Your intramural leagues are always run well. Thanks, Rick.

  2. Bud Shaw says:

Back in the days when the department of surgery had a basketball team (think Alan Langnas, cagey point guard and Jon Thompson, power forward), I almost always fouled out because Rick was on the whistle-happy side. Some say that's how Rick helped our team win so often. That hurts.
