The campus is invited to a farewell reception for Carol Kirchner, controller, on Wednesday, May 14, from 2:30-4 p.m. in Private Dining Rooms B and C in the University Tower, near the cafeteria.
Kirchner, an M.B.A. and C.P.A., has been at UNMC for two decades. She has been controller for six years, overseeing such initiatives as the Financial Stewardship Council, development of campus financial metrics, implementation of an accounts receivable system and many other improvements to business practices at UNMC.
Don Leuenberger, vice chancellor for business and finance, and Deb Thomas, associate vice chancellor for business and finance, are hosting the reception for Kirchner. They will make remarks at 3 p.m. Refreshments will be served.
Kirchner starts June 1 as assistant vice chancellor and director of finance at UNO. Bill Lawlor will assume the duties of controller at UNMC on May 19.
“We are sorry to lose Carol,” Leuenberger said. “She has been such an important contributor to UNMC and to strengthening the trust and our reputation for solid financial management among those who support us. I wholeheartedly congratulate Carol on her very deserved promotion, and I also congratulate UNO for keeping such a talented person in the University of Nebraska community.”
Apart from her professional ability, Kirchner also was fun to work with, Thomas said.
“Carol is a consummate professional and always willing to help others,” she said. “She is a good friend, and many people on this campus, not just in business and finance, will really miss her.”
We will miss Carol so much, but are so thrilled for her new opportunity! Certainly hope we still cross paths from time to time. She is a talented lady and a role model for so many. Best wishes to you, Carol!!
